Error "Value cannot be null. Parameter name: key ..."

There were two other posts describing the same error, and one has not received a response and the other just said to download a new "fixed" version.

Since we just installed the latest DLL, the latter solution doesn't seem to be an option for us.

One additional sympton to the error is that no .index file is created.
I just tried to solve this by grant full permission to anything and everyone on the face of the planet to the UltimateSearchInclude directory, but that didn't fix the problem.

Below is the full error message that we get when we go to
http://prophetofdoom.net/ultimatesearchinclude/UltimateSearch.admin.aspx?f=p
or
http://prophetofdoom.net/ultimatesearchinclude/UltimateSearch.admin.aspx?f=w

Re: Error "Value cannot be null. Parameter name: key ..."
As you explained yourself it is due to missing index file. Did you check the UltimateSearch.event.log file? If it's missing as well then it's definitely a security issue that prevents you from writing into the UltimateSearchInclude directory under the root of your web app. Is it your own machine or being hosted by an ISP? Did you give full permission to ASPNET (NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE in Windows 2003) on your UltimateSearchInclude directory? Giving full permission to "Everybody" doesn't help at all.

The solution is hosted, and I gave full permission to all the user accounts that were listed.  I just wiped out the entire directory and started over actually.

The index file is now being created, but I still was receiving the same error.

I looked in the log file and saw this:

4/26/2006 3:10:15 PM, Read config file
4/26/2006 3:10:15 PM, Add config to cache
4/26/2006 3:10:16 PM, Value was either too large or too small for an Int32.
4/26/2006 3:10:57 PM, Value was either too large or too small for an Int32.
4/26/2006 3:11:00 PM, Value was either too large or too small for an Int32.
4/26/2006 3:11:03 PM, Value was either too large or too small for an Int32.
4/26/2006 3:11:12 PM, Value was either too large or too small for an Int32.
4/26/2006 3:11:12 PM, Value was either too large or too small for an Int32.
4/26/2006 3:11:12 PM, Value was either too large or too small for an Int32.
4/26/2006 3:11:18 PM, Value was either too large or too small for an Int32.

Which tipped me off that I had cranked up my maxPageLength setting too high.

Everything is ok now.
